Decluttering service

When selling your home, decluttering can be the best thing you can do. Decluttering creates more space, instantly appealing to buyers, and enables purchasers to see past your possessions to see your home’s potential for themselves. Clutter can be an unwanted distraction which prevents buyers from seeing your house fully, so take it away.

Even if you’re not planning to sell any time soon, a good decluttering can free up more space in your home and in your head. Physical clutter can prove to be a mental impairment – tidy house, tidy mind!

If you have a lot of possessions, decluttering may seem an insurmountable task but declutter you must! If you’re decluttering to sell your home, you will have to have a sort out and pack it all up at some point anyway. The earlier you can do it, the less stressful it will be closer to moving day.

What can we do?

We can provide packing boxes for your items, then come back and collect them and either put them into our secure storage facility until you need your items again, or we can dispose of them. If you’d like items to be donated to a charity shop, then we can arrange that too.

Top tips for decluttering

  • Get on with it! Getting started can be the hardest part. Once you’ve got going it will become easier, I promise. If you’re not sure where to start, then write all your rooms down and draw one out of a hat. Simple.
  • Always have three boxes to hand – one for stuff to keep, one for stuff to donate to charity, and one for stuff destined for the bin. If you can get the boxes to be equally full, then you will be on your way to decluttering your things by two-thirds, which is fantastic.
  • If you can’t find the time to get to the charity shop, then give them a call. Some shops offer a local collection service, especially for larger items. Don’t have an excuse for not donating!
  • Be brutal. Decluttering is amazingly therapeutic so take advantage. Don’t keep something if you think you might need it again, if you haven’t ever needed it in the last year or more. Are you really going to read all those books again, or wear those bargain clothes which don’t fit any more?
  • Get a friend to help. Having someone keep you company and keep you motivated is very productive. They can offer a second opinion when you’re deciding what to do with your possessions. It will also speed things up.
  • Get in a professional. If you truly cannot find the motivation or really don’t have the time, a decluttering professional can do it all for you. This has the advantage of them not being at all influenced by sentimentality, meaning you really will end up just with things that are useful. They provide an objective opinion on what you really need in your home, and have contacts to help you dispose of your items thoughtfully and maybe profitably.

Decluttering is the first step in creating more space and getting yourself organised for the move to your next property. You don’t have to get rid of everything permanently. If you know you want to keep something for your new home, our storage service is perfect for your needs.
